The Earth as Pathos

The other cosmology stemming from early planetary ideology was Gaia cosmology. Like the accelerationists, the Gaians refuse to see the Earth as an appropriable object or a system whose behavior is aimed at its own stability. Yet they carry on symmetrically opposed values: slowing down instead of accelerating, concretization instead of abstraction, ecology instead of technology, Epimetheanism instead of Prometheanism. “Dream no longer, mortals! You won’t escape into space. You have no dwelling place but this one, this narrow planet”.
