Introduction

Guided by the insurgent potential of low theories—as articulated by critical theorist McKenzie Wark and queer theorist Jack Halberstam—Hudinilson Jr.’s Cadernos de referências: Queer Desires, Haptic Gazes, Scrapscapes of Becoming ventures into the fertile chaos of the margins. It argues that vital forms of theoretical knowledge emerge not through institutional sanction but from the overlooked, the ephemeral, and the seemingly insignificant: from the unruly defiance inherent in practices deemed peripheral. This project insists that the frivolous, the promiscuous, and the irrelevant—embodied in the discarded remnants of mass culture, the transient materialities of everyday life, and the deliberate, labor-intensive ritual of scrapbooking—hold profound theoretical and material significance for understanding processes of queer becoming.
