Mapping Otherwise
摘要
This chapter contributes to discourses on community and design by proposing “reparative diagrammatics” – a visual and participatory method for engaging with damaged or dysfunctional urban systems. Rather than relying on spatial accuracy or technical resolution, this approach foregrounds lived experience, affective structure, and symbolic infrastructure. Mapping, in this context, does not serve to represent geographic territory, but to materialise how urban space is felt, navigated, and imagined – particularly by those structurally marginalised. As James Corner (1999, p. 214) has argued, the power of mapping lies not only in its descriptive capacity, but in its ability to reconfigure the conditions for new spatial imaginaries. It is this speculative, diagrammatic function of mapping that reparative diagrammatics seeks to foreground.
