In terms of reception history, the concept of aura is closely linked to its thematisation in Walter Benjamin’s essay “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” (Benjamin 1969 & 1980). Looking back from Benjamin’s essay, we arrive at Ludwig Klages and his concept of “primal images”,1 which in a certain sense, was the force behind Benjamin’s concept of aura.2 Looking forward from Benjamin’s essay we arrive at further literature,3 from which I will select two examples: a book by Gernot Böhme (1995) and an essay by his student Michael Hauskeller (1999).
