For more than 30 years now, I have been studying the phenomenon of genius loci, both theoretically and practically. Some accuse me of having a somewhat exaggerated penchant for romanticism. This accusation is more or less true. But that’s not a bad thing. Quite the contrary. I am happy to face this accusation, especially in anti-romantic times like these. To provide a counterbalance. Against the oppressive economisation, digitalisation and quantification of our days. And, of course, against a pseudo-romantic, capitalist aestheticisation of almost everything; an over-aestheticisation that has already become second nature to many of us (cf. Böhme 2017b; and: Borch 2014, 7-16).
