Easily branded as one of the forerunners of the French Nouvelle Vague and a feminist director,2 Varda is an artist who achieves a personal and extraordinary way to express visual and sound emotions, feelings, philosophical issues, and multi-layered perspectives on reality. To properly define her attitude in making movies, Varda coined the term cinécriture: ‘an elaborate and potentially powerful combination of moving images, sound, and music’.3
