Preface

Until recently, Accessible Communication was neither a clearly defined professional profile nor a distinct area of research. However, political and legal endeavours at the international and national level to establish accessibility for all people have led to a situation in which both professionalisation and academisation have become a necessity (see for example the European Accessibility Act and Directive 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies, to name just two).
