La enseñanza de un español auténtico: El caso de la variedad mexicana en Canadá

Integrating Spanish varieties in second and foreign language (SFL) courses represents a challenge for teachers. The aim of this article is to expose the linguistic characteristics of Mexican Spanish for classroom instruction. To this end, we present the example of a Canadian higher education teaching center where this variety is the preferred one, emphasizing the use of authentic language. In a survey, participants of a virtual mobility project attest the effectiveness of this approach. Following the discussion of some common features of Central American varieties, we will delve into the common and distinct features of Mexican Spanish and highlight that the integration of linguistic variability in SFL is an achievable task when applying the three phases of the Global SFL Teaching-Learning Model.
