Scialla: analisi di un’interiezione italiana del 21° secolo e ricerca di possibili equivalenti in lingua tedesca
摘要
The purpose of the paper is the analysis of the interjection scialla – an expression of the early 2000s used by young Romans that has gradually spread (thanks also to movie transpositions) throughout the Italian territory – including the proposal of valid probable equivalents in German capable of portraying its (partial) semantic-pragmatic nuances. First, some of the most frequent primary and secondary interjections in both languages will be reviewed (with examples of direct equivalents, e.g., ahi / ahia = au / aua), followed by a detailed analysis of scialla. In addition to investigating its etymology as an originally Arabic expression introduced into the language of young people, its semantic and morphological development in Italian will be explored (e.g. derivatives such as sciallato and/or scialloso), as well as its contexts of use and pragmatic functions, to focus next on both the contrastive and the translation-related aspects. Which particular criteria should be considered for a suitable translation and which means help finding possible counterparts? Results arise from data extrapolated from Italian corpora and webcorpora: the starting hypothesis regards the choice of polirematiche (or phrasemes) with varying syntactic structures as the best translation solutions, e.g. bleib(t) entspannt! [V + ADJ] or (sei / seid) ganz ruhig! [(V +) ADV + ADJ]. The key objective of this research is to make a 21st-century Italian interjection, belonging to youth language, accessible to German speakers.
