Subtitling (the production of subtitles) and subtitles (the product), has been researched within AVT from various perspectives with a multitude of research questions, methodologies, and in several linguistic and cultural contexts. In the introduction to a special issue of Translation Spaces titled “Methodological issues in experimental research into AVT” the authors describe AVT as a well-established research field within TS. AVT – and with it also the study of subtitling – has taken several methodological turns with regard to the development of the field, each providing “new ideas, methods, perspectives and approaches” (Greco et al., 2022, p. 1).
