摘要

This interdisciplinary and multi-perspective volume applies several theoretical approaches, tests new ones and closes some empirical gaps. Furthermore, this book allows some conclusions to be drawn, both for a concrete case study and for the theoretical framework within translation studies. On the metalevel, the following contributions can be enumerated: first, this case study proves that a publishing company can build a separate component of a larger translation culture and translators are its principal creators; second, this work suggests a publishing company as a space for the historical investigation of translators’ agency and shows the effectiveness of networks analyses as the way of studying translator’s agency within an organisation; third, I demonstrate how translators and the publisher can use translation as soft power; fourth, this is another example of using paratext (more concretely – peritext) as a source, in combination with archival data; fifth, the productivity of the histoire croisée method on multiple levels has been demonstrated within this case study in translation history. Furthermore, this work suggests a new approach to analysing a selected translation culture: introducing a meso level as a middle stage between macro and micro into research design and combining the three levels to demonstrate and approach the voluminous and profound nature of the translation culture as a concept.
