Multilingualism in business and language management
摘要
The paper presents the design, development, and impact of a pilot project aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of multilingualism and language management in business settings. Research evidence shows that one corporate language is insufficient to lead a multilingual team effectively, as content expertise is not foreign language expertise. In the “Multilingualism in Business and Language Management” pilot co-teaching project within the specialization “Language for Profession and Science,” students in the Intercultural Management (ICM) Program at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences are exposed to the linguistic diversity they will encounter in international management roles. Building on theoretical input from course instructors, joint analysis of case studies, and practical activities, students are equipped to address the challenges of linguistic diversity in professional settings and provided with tools to manage them effectively. The goal is to train future multilingual managers with a sharp awareness of linguistic and cultural dynamics, enabling them to integrate their expertise into corporate communication strategies.
