Panel discussions offer a relatively easy opportunity to gain an overview of different opinions and points of view. Conversely, these discussions often focus on very specific sub-aspects, which may leave the audience wondering how they are all connected. For this very reason, I consider the synthesis work carried out in the previous contribution to be very valuable, because it not only dealt with the individual contributions to the discussion, but also established links to the general discussion and the academic literature – especially in the areas of multilingualism and language policies – and was thus able to provide a kind of ‘holistic overview’.
