The Jussive Mood in Arabic Grammar

  • Alif Cahya Setiyadi

摘要

This section presents an overview of the jussive mood in Arabic grammar tradition. As the reflection of the contextual modalities in Arabic, the jussive moods always stand alongside the indicative, subjunctive, imperative, and energetic. The discussion on those modalities mainly focuses on the multiple case-ending determination in which the modalities are constructed, such as; rafa’/dhamma or nasb/fatḥa or jazm/sukūn. Instead, this chapter aims to describe the jussive moods in the classical Arabic tradition. In the earlier part of this section, we will discuss, in general, the paradigm of the jussive mood in Arabic tradition primarily based on Sibawaih’s thoughts and some of his followers and referring to Wright’s books.
