This paper investigates the emotional potential of oral texts from a prosodic and lexical perspective. The analysed texts take into account the topic of war, thus being highly connotated on the emotional level (Åhall/Gregory 2015). Although war is usually associated with negative emotions, particularly fear, sadness and anger (cf. Cheung and Blunden 2008), the present analysis reveals the intricate interplay of various emotions in oral texts about war. Notably, the analysed texts also exhibit positive sentiments, evident in both the prosodic and lexical dimensions. The corpus used for the present work is based on autobiographical interviews. As regards the methodological approach, emotions are studied with respect to the prosodic (cf. Kehrein 2002) and the lexical domain (cf. Schwarz-Friesel 2015; Fiehler 2008).
