The invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops began on 24 February 2022. Since then, Russia’s war against Ukraine has escalated, bringing with it widespread destruction. War is a significant historical event that changes everything, including language: it leaves a mark on both language use and vocabulary. This article examines the impact of the war in Ukraine on the use of language in public discourse. It seeks to explore which new words have emerged (and are continuing to emerge) in the context of contemporary war events and how they can shape our language.
