The Yezidis, whose native language is the dominant Kurdish Kurmanǧī dialect, share a profound connection with their linguistic and religious heritage. The Yezidi religious texts and prayers are expressed in Kurmanǧī what underscores the integral role of language in their religious practices. However, a notable exception exists among a small group of Yezidis residing in Bashiqa and Bahzani, who are Arabic speakers, although they use Kurdish as their religious language317. Nowadays, within the Yezidi community, there exists a spectrum of opinions regarding their ethnic identity. The crux of the matter lies in whether they identify as “Êzidî”–“Yezidi” encompassing both religious and ethnic dimensions, or if they perceive themselves as Yezidi in terms of religion while identifying ethnically as Kurds or bearing multiple identities318.
