The analysis focuses on the Slovene translation of allusions to The Revelation in Mikhail Bulgakov’s futuristic play Adam and Eve in which Bulgakov offers his own interpretation of the end of the world caused by a technological progress. In the depiction of the apocalyptic disaster in the first two acts, Bulgakov establishes an intertextual dialogue with The Revelation, by using direct quotes and allusions. An extensive and consistent use of these intertextual devices clearly indicates the special significance of apocalyptic context in Bulgakov’s play, which explores apocalyptic destruction caused by scientific progress and aftermath of the end of the word. The main purpose of this analysis is to analyze translation strategies used by Slovene translator Borut Kraševec (2016) to transfer the apocalyptic context.
