The Natural History of Jewish Art
摘要
A surprising number of definitions exist to explain what we mean by the term natural history. Ultimately, it could be narrowed down to the study of natural objects and organisms and is concerned more with observational than experimental methods or research. It spans disciplines, and much debate exists about what subjects can be included. The studies of Flora and Fauna occupied the ancients in the Bible, the Talmudic Sages, the medieval intellectuals, and later Jewish scholars. Throughout the centuries, art reflected their research and observations.
