Translation and Retranslation of Russian Classics Through the Lens of German as an Intermediary Language
摘要
The paper analyzes possible different reasons for retranslating a piece which has already been translated. Retranslation is not a new practice, but in the relatively small Hungarian book market it is never unnoticed, on the contrary, it quite often earns notice of not only practicing translators and scholars but also the readers themselves. In the first part of the paper the focus is on this theory. The possible reasons are put in the following categories: commercial and philological. The latter has its subcategories which are narratological, textual or related to translation studies. Naturally, these subcategories cannot be strictly separated from each other but they can help us understand and overview the reasons in a more comprehensive way.
