Rechtstranslatorische Verfahren der Künstlichen Intelligenz
摘要
Despite the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence across the various branches of linguistics, its benefits for legal translation have not yet been sufficiently explored. However, recent research has revealed deficiencies, specifically in terms of terminological congruence, semantics, and adequate communication of knowledge. This paper proposes a case-specific study of AI-generated translations of a French court ruling into the German legal language, taking into account the requirements for court-certified translations and the system-dependent legal knowledge of expert recipients. Drawing on frame-semantic approaches to cross-systemic communication in law, this study analyzes the linguistic signs chosen by different AI engines in order to provide access to highly culture-specific legal terms, focusing on the potential knowledge elements evoked by legal experts within the source and target systems and thus providing observations on the practical benefits of AI for certified legal translators.
