Space travel is the last great connectivity innovation in which humans still play a role, at least in its initial stages. Our fascination with the cosmos has existed since the earliest societies. Science fiction authors have inspired the developers of space technology. It seems to be the very nature of science fiction to extrapolate basic assumptions into more complex structures.
