Measuring fear in metres
摘要
We often mistakenly refer to consciousness as that which we perceive, whereas it more precisely refers to the process by which we perceive something. In the literal sense, we only become consciously aware of neural processes when they cannot be handled by the “autopilot” function and instead require our attention, active communication, or a physical response. This act of becoming conscious is based on a neural reference mechanism that directs attention to normative deviations within the encoded space.
