The Application of Theological Resources of Peacebuilding in the Works of ʿAbd Ḥalīm Maḥmūd, Said Nursi and Hamka in Egypt, Turkey and Indonesia

Following the identification of the theological resources for peacebuilding contained in the works of ʿAbd al-Ḥalīm Maḥmūd, Nursi, and Hamka, and their exposition in Chapter 5, this chapter presents practical examples of how such resources were utilized by these three scholars in their respective contexts to promote peace. The scope of this study is deliberately limited to examining their concrete contributions to peacebuilding in their lived environments, alongside a brief account of their impact on the communities in which they resided. This chapter is not intended to offer an in-depth, detailed, or comprehensive exploration of the broader applications and societal influence of these theological resources at the national level. Such an endeavor would require a more extensive historical, anthropological, sociological, and cultural investigation. By contrast, this study primarily focuses on textual analysis of the writings of the three scholars. The discussion of application aims to illuminate how these texts ultimately served to inspire and shape social and intellectual life. The process of interpreting these texts into thought, theology, ideology, normative frameworks, and practical action constitutes the key dynamic. To secure the role of religion as both an inspirer and creator of peace, a sound intellect within a purified and tranquil soul is essential in interpreting scriptural texts.
