Trends in herbicide resistance in Latin America

Latin America, as the name itself suggests, is a term used to represent a wide array of countries in the Americas (Mexico, Central America, and South America except for Suriname, Guyana, and the Falkland Islands) where the so-called Romance languages – mainly Spanish and Portuguese – are the main languages (Dressing 2018). It is thus considered a broader term than Hispanic America as the latter narrowly refers to Spanish-speaking countries. Latin American countries combined are home to over 650 million people and several different biomes that help regulate the world’s climate, which are spread over an area of 20+ million km2 (Fig. 1).
