SAMARA (Simulator of crop trait Assembly, MAnagement Response and Adaptation) is a deterministic model for cereal crops that operates on a daily time step. It was mostly used for simulating rice and sorghum growth and development. It simulates the growth and development of cereals at the canopy level, considering limitations from radiation, water, and CO2. The model uses daily inputs such as solar radiation, air temperature, potential evapotranspiration (FAO), and precipitation. SAMARA captures source–sink relationships in cereals, including rice, with detailed morphological aspects. This is based on phenotypic plasticity due to competition for assimilates within the plant (Kumar et al., 2016, 2017).
