Grasslands in New Zealand: challenges and solutions
摘要
Grassland farming has continued to support the lifestyle and growth of New Zealand since the frst shipments of frozen meat and chilled cheese and butter to Britain in 1882. Its importance remains as relevant to the wealth of New Zealand now as it was then. This makes New Zealand unique in developed nations across the world, as it is a major trading nation in dairy, sheep meat and deer products, all from grassland systems, with little government support. Meat continues to be exported frozen or chilled, while the majority of dairy products are dried and exported as powders, with some cheese and butter exported.
