The role of women smallholder farmers in achieving global food security: an overview

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 focusing on Zero Hunger aims to end hunger, improve nutrition and promote resilient and sustainable agricultural systems by 2030. This is important because having reliable physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food at all times is a fundamental human right for every individual (CFS, 2023). This food should meet the dietary needs and food preferences of people so they can lead active and healthy lives (IFPRI, 2021).
