There has been considerable growth in free-range poultry meat production systems, mainly because of consumer demand for more animal-welfarefriendly production, though this demand for premium products is known to vary between markets and fluctuate according to economic cycles. These systems involve slower growth, longer production cycles, and less environmental control than for housed poultry. As a result of these factors, environmental sustainability may be less good than for housed poultry by some measures.[1] Our objective is to maintain good poultry health, predictable and uniform growth, and good control of pathogens of public health significance.

摘要

There has been considerable growth in free-range poultry meat production systems, mainly because of consumer demand for more animal-welfarefriendly production, though this demand for premium products is known to vary between markets and fluctuate according to economic cycles. These systems involve slower growth, longer production cycles, and less environmental control than for housed poultry. As a result of these factors, environmental sustainability may be less good than for housed poultry by some measures.[1] Our objective is to maintain good poultry health, predictable and uniform growth, and good control of pathogens of public health significance.
