Black soldier fly meal: an alternative protein source for pigs
摘要
The rise in the global human population, in conjunction with higher standards of living, has increased the demand for animal protein for human consumption. The overall demand for protein annually is estimated to be 202 million tonnes but is expected to reach 435 million tonnes by 2050 (Boland et al., 2013; Henchion et al., 2017). It is predicted that a large proportion of this demand will be for pork and poultry products (Kim et al., 2019), given that these are the more efficient land-based, farmed animals for converting feed protein into animal protein, but this would result in increased pressure on sustainable protein sourcing of their nutrition.
