Use of protein from black soldier flies in poultry feed
摘要
Insects have been proposed as a promising alternative protein source to solve the global challenge of sustainable protein production for human food and animal feed. Among insect species, black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) are most commonly processed into BSFL protein meal (BSFLM) and BSFL oil. The nutritional value of defatted BSFLM is similar to or higher than conventional protein sources such as soybean meal (SBM) and other insect species, offering the possibility of completely replacing SBM in the diet of laying hens and broilers (van der Heide et al., 2021).
