There is a growing recognition that human, animal and environmental health should not and cannot be managed in isolation from one another. The recent development of ‘One Welfare’ as a holistic approach to health and well-being came about largely as a response to the perceived limitations of the integrated ‘One Health’ approach which, is itself, partly developed from the earlier ‘One Medicine’ approach. All of these approaches continue to be pursued alongside others including ‘Eco Health’ and ‘Planetary Health’, indicating the ongoing challenges faced for truly integrative research and inclusive health-directed action.
