Advances in understanding and exploiting the pig genome
摘要
Selective animal breeding has delivered significant improvements in the productivity of farmed animals including pigs in the absence of knowledge of the genes controlling the trait(s) of interest. Quantitative genetics has provided both the theoretical framework and statistical tools for scientific genetic improvement. Advances in molecular genetics and sequencing technologies driven by the Human Genome Project have enabled the exploitation of genomic information to deliver a revolution in selective animal breeding (Hill 2014).
