Feminism as Praxis
摘要
In chapter four I explore what feminism means in the Kabul context and argue that, through art, young female artists’ art practice reflects a feminism as praxis, not feminist as label. This is a feminism beyond the ‘feminist’ label, which has been attributed to Western liberal feminism. Rather than identify as feminist, the artists I spoke to do feminist work. This chapter explores feminism as praxis as a response, an untethering of women’s rights work from western liberal feminism, which has shaped the NGO-isation of gender equality approaches in the country. There was a mistrust of external interventions in women’s rights advocacy in the country and this showed through a distancing from feminism, even as the actions and motives of Kabuli artists were inherently feminist. This chapter explores context specific feminist movements and advocates for the historicity of feminist work in the country. That is, an indigenous feminist advocacy that has long roots through time.
