India’s Path of Development

India has gradually accelerated its path of growth since its independence, in the context of a re-emergence and re-centralisation of Asia into global capitalism. Indeed, India has been one of the fastest growing countries of this century, showing the highest growth rate for 2023. In this entry, three features of the Indian path of development are introduced and discussed: the institutional place of science and technology, the importance of public and private infrastructure expenditure, and the role of diaspora. Lessons for Latin America are extracted as well as common challenges related to the structural heterogeneity that characterises both regions.
