Events, Messaging, and Decoupled Communication

  • Patrick Kearns

摘要

Modern distributed systems rarely fail because a single component is badly built. More often, they fail because too many components depend on each other too tightly and too synchronously. A request enters one service, triggers calls to several others, and suddenly the health of the whole system depends on every downstream dependency responding quickly and correctly. That approach can work in simple systems, but as scale, traffic, and business complexity grow, it becomes fragile. Events and messages offer a more resilient alternative. Instead of forcing every component to participate in the same request at the same time, they allow systems to communicate through durable, asynchronous handoffs. Producers can publish facts or send work without needing to know who will react, when they will react, or whether they are currently available.
