It’s important to remember how young many of our platforms remain. Two decades ago, engineers talked about “write once, run anywhere.” In practice, we joked it was “write once, debug everywhere” as browser engines and operating systems behaved differently. Back then, the most significant differences were between Windows and Linux or Internet Explorer and Firefox. Creating a web app that worked in those environments sometimes required script adjustments, compatibility fixes, and rendering refinements for Safari or Opera, but the gap was comparatively narrow.
