The Birth of the Paper Self

  • Rosario Mastrogiacomo

摘要

Chapter 1 traced identity in its oldest form, when recognition lived in the body and trust was carried by proximity, ritual, and the slow weight of shared experience. That system worked for as long as people remained within reach of one another, but it could not scale beyond the limits of memory and presence. When societies began extending past those limits, identity had to be rebuilt in a form that could travel where the body could not.
