The Experimentation Mindset

  • Ming Lei

摘要

In modern product and software development, evidence trumps opinion. For decades, critical decisions about feature launches and system changes were guided by intuition, experience, and the “HiPPO”—the Highest Paid Person’s Opinion [5]. While experience is invaluable for generating ideas, relying on it alone for final decisions in complex digital ecosystems is akin to navigating without a map. The risks are tangible. A feature developed by five engineers over three months represents a significant investment. If launched based on intuition and it fails to deliver value—or harms user experience through increased latency, bugs, or confusion—the cost extends beyond engineering time.
