The Future

This chapter looks ahead at the coming wave of AI that’s already starting to reshape our user interfaces. The change will be massive, from multi-modal interactions and helpful AI assistants to entirely new AI-first applications. Big shifts are underway. We’re standing right at the edge of this wave, and once it hits, nothing is going to look the same again. We have built more and more complex user experiences. This desire for a more complex user experience exists partially because we were constantly trying to build user interfaces that were more usable. In Chapter 2 , we discussed many aspects of good user interface design. These principles are still valid today and need to be understood to create good user interfaces. And chat interfaces are not a panacea, we still must create good and relevant information (Figure 6-1 shows the opposite).
