Immersive Technology and Mobile Platforms
摘要
Immersive technologies, such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), blur boundaries between the physical and digital worlds, revolutionizing contemporary learning models. They, combined with mobile technology, turn this type of highly interactive, engaging, and context-aware learning experience into the hands of the learner. Unlike conventional learning methods that are text-heavy and static, mobile immersive learning allows the individual to visualize a topic whether it be a concept or process more complex than experience alone can afford; for example, we highlight that through VR apps you cannot only walk around within an archaeological excavation but also put your hands in the finds or interact virtually with 3D models, simulating activities-literally going beyond personal physical capacity. With the advancements in smartphones that are equipped with enhanced sensors, high-resolution cameras, gyroscopes, and powerful processors, the utilization of AR/VR-based learning and training applications has increased drastically.
