Artificial Intelligence in Immersive Technology

Artificial intelligence (AI) is leading the transformation of digital exchanges from machine logic to human behavior. This chapter explores the important role of AI in immersive technology, meaning technology that replicates or alters real-world environments using digital cues [1]. Moving toward a more interactive, responsive digital future, there is a growing importance of bringing  AI into the immersive environment, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and the larger space of extended reality (XR). This chapter discusses the ways in which AI, broadly defined, contributes to intelligence, responsiveness, and believability in immersive environments [2].
