Human Senses, Perception, and Psychology

Where one might have thought humans have a passive reflection of the outside world, the reality is actually a more complex model of the world that is indeed shaped and built by our senses and organized and defined by our brain. The sensation of what humans see (Pelau et al., 2021), hear, taste, and smell actually does not enter the brain in its actual physical form; it is filtered, selected, and interpreted by a network of neurons from an interpretation conducted by the senses and affective filters. Thus, when the information captured by the senses makes its way to the brain, it changes its form into electric signals, and the brain processes it through the nervous system to different parts of the brain. This data is then decoded using the perceptual process and melded with prior experiences and emotional connection points. The outcome is a meaningful perception of an object that allows the brain to interact with the world.
