In the previous chapters, we navigated the landscape of relational databases and NoSQL stores. However, as applications scale globally, they face a daunting challenge: the "Speed of Light" problem. Relational databases like PostgreSQL are excellent for consistency but hard to scale across regions. NoSQL databases like MongoDB scale easily but often at the cost of strict ACID compliance.
