Neuroevolution

This chapter opens the third and last part of the book. The book started with the topic of neural networks, which is a computational metaphor for a biological brain. Subsequently, the book covered genetic algorithms, a computational simulation of the evolution of species. After these two parts, the question that may naturally be asked is: Is it possible to evolve neural networks in a similar fashion that our biological brain went through evolution for thousands of years? The answer is yes, and this evolution mechanism is the topic of this third and last part of the book. Neuroevolution is a form of artificial intelligence that combines neural networks and genetic algorithms.
