Generative AI (GenAI) is an artificial intelligence system that can create text in response to prompts. At its core, GenAI works by training on massive amounts of written language, learning patterns, style, and context and then predicting the next word or phrase when given an instruction. Unlike earlier “autocomplete” systems, these models—called large language models (LLMs)—can generate whole paragraphs, mimic tone, or even answer nuanced questions.
