The fast-growing deployment of IoT technologies has already provided many sectors (such as healthcare, agriculture, transportation, and smart cities) with operational improvements and new applications. As a result, we have reached a breakpoint in the way we collect, process, and act on data in order to increase efficiencies, automate tasks, and better support decision-making. Increased adoption of IoT devices brings with it worries about large-scale deployment, including the energy used by the devices, the creation of electronic waste (e-waste), and the carbon footprint of all the wires and data centers in between. As IoT networks grow larger, and the demand for energy and resources increases, it will become more difficult to support sustainability goals.

摘要
