This chapter teaches the reader a brief history of.NET and the ways to use.NET for building web properties. We begin with a history of.NET Framework, then look at.NET Core and modern.NET, showing the versatility and “rebirth” of the.NET platform. Then we look at the ways to host websites in.NET: MVC, Razor Pages, Web API, Minimal APIs, and more. This chapter puts in context the value of building in.NET, and encourages developers to move from other languages or at least not move toward other languages.
