Nuclear Power: "The Next Generation." At first glance, this phrase might sound more like the title of another dystopian disaster movie from the American film industry. Indeed, the term "nuclear energy" is often associated with negative connotations due to the devastating impacts of past nuclear disasters (known as Super-GAUs, the worst-case accident scenarios). This is hardly surprising, given that the consequences of Chernobyl are still felt in Germany today – some Bavarian mushrooms remain radioactive even four decades later. As a result, the dark side of nuclear energy was suddenly thrust into the spotlight. However, it is often the case that the things with the greatest risks also offer the greatest opportunities.
