By 2020, approximately 80% of the population live in urban areas. Since this urbanization is not finalized, yet, in combination with the challenges of climate change, it presents a significant strain on Europe's water supply systems. In response, the European Union-funded project DESSIN has introduced innovative technologies and methods aimed at addressing the growing issues of water scarcity and quality (European Commission, 2023).
